In today's world where the economy is bad, and who knows how long this difficult era is going to last, I ask myself, which is the best profession to go into in order to make a good living? Professions that were worth going into several years ago, no longer exists today. For example, I majored in Education in college and became an elementary school teacher. Today in many areas, new teachers find it difficult to get a job in this field. There are other professions that require a masters degree or a doctoral degree where a person has a chance of getting a good paying profession. Because I was curious, I read an article in the magazine, Kiplinger's Personal Finance that answered my curiosity. According to the article, Does Grad School Pay off, public-health professionals should find many jobs in the coming years. The public care industry is expected to expand in the future. The reason for this is because the federal government is encouraging improvement in preventive care and disaster-preparedness. Specialties with the most job potential include health services administration, epidemiology. health education and public health program management. Most public-health management positions require a master's degree, such as a master of public health or health administration. Another promising field to go into is Doctor of Pharmacy. It is reported that there will be a shortage of new pharmacists as many of the older pharmacists are planning to retire. There is, however, a negative side to this profession. Some pharmacists reported that their hours were cut back and their schedules have been re-arranged during the recession. There is a good side to this situation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth for pharmacists will approach 20% over the decade ending in 2018. The average salary for this profession, which requires a doctoral degree is $106,630. Although jobs in business management analysts in previous years were not considered good to go into, it is reported that as for the future, job growth in this field over the decade should be strong and so should the competition among job seekers. However, Many firms won't look at a candidate who does not have an MBA degree. According to the National Association for Law Placement, it looks as though trying to get a law degree may not be a good choice for the future. Hiring remains below the pre-recession years. There will be a lot of competition in this field if law schools continue to have more lawyers than there are jobs. So now our readers may wonder, "Is going to a professional school worth it?"
